Things to do after you’ve been in a Naples car accident
If you are in a car accident, your life can change in a matter of seconds. Even if the accident seems minor at first, you may have sustained injuries that may not be evident for several weeks, if not months.
As such, there are several things you’ll need to do to make sure you’re protected.
Stay put
Although some people might think the best thing to do is to leave the scene and drive home, this is not the case.
You’ll want to stay where you are and contact the police. Filing a police report will be an important step to take if you plan to file a claim with your insurance company, or if a claim needs to be filed with the other driver’s insurance company.
When law enforcement arrives at the scene, be sure to tell the officers exactly what happened. If your phone wasn’t damaged, take photos of all of damage that was done to your vehicle. If you were injured (and the injuries are visible), take photos of your injuries.
Be sure to exchange information with the other driver
If the accident wasn’t severe, the police may decide not to come to the scene. In this case, you’ll want to be sure to get the other driver’s contact info including their name, address, phone number and their insurance information. Be sure to write down their license plate number, and if you can, get a photograph of their driver’s license.
See a doctor
As we just stated, injuries sustained during a Naples car accident may not appear right away. You should always, always see a doctor after an accident, just to be on the safe side. This is especially important if you feel light headed or lost consciousness, as you may have sustained a concussion.
The doctor will perform a full evaluation of your condition and they will let you know if additional care and treatment will be needed. It’s also worth noting that you’ll want to start a file that contains information of all of your accident-related medical care. This file should contain receipts for doctor visits, emergency room care, medical tests and medication.
