Reasons to See A Doctor After a Car Accident

National data suggests that there are approximately four fatal car accidents in the US every hour—but that number doesn’t account for the number of non-fatal crashes that occur each day.

In 2016, there were more than 7.3 million car accidents nationwide; more than 28% of them involved minor to severe injuries. Being in a car accident is scary— and if you’re ever involved in a no-fault accident, you’ll want to be sure you see a doctor right away.

Should I go even if I don’t feel like I’ve been injured?

The answer to that question is a resounding “yes, ” regardless as to whether you think you’re OK.

First, there is a chance that you may have sustained a concussion. Minor concussions may not exhibit any immediate symptoms, but the resulting damage can linger for a very long time.

When you see a doctor, this will allow you to be checked out, from head-to-toe, by a licensed medical professional. If they determine you’ve been injured, they’ll be able to recommend a course of treatment.

A second reason you’ll want to see a doctor is because the MD will be able to provide you with documented evidence of the exam, their findings, the types of tests that were done and the treatment you received. If you find yourself in a position where you feel you need to hire a personal injury lawyer, having copies of your medical records can help you with your case.

Be sure to keep copies of all medical-care related receipts, including prescription costs, hospital fees, co-pays, physical therapy expenses, and any other care-related costs.

So I should see a doctor regardless?

Yes.

In the aftermath of a car accident, your adrenaline levels are likely through the roof. You may feel fine a first, but you may start to feel sore after it wears off. Some car accident victims don’t start to feel pain until the following day.

Again, when it comes to possible accident-related injuries, it’s always best to err on the side of caution.

Talk to a personal injury lawyer

In the days after a motor vehicle accident, you’re likely to be contacted by the other party’s insurance company, and the company will likely want to try to settle the matter quickly. You’ll want to remember that you should never, ever accept a settlement offer until you speak with a lawyer.

When you hire a personal injury attorney, you’ll have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you have a licensed, experienced lawyer who will fight to get you the compensation you deserve.
